Has any progress been made with regard to being able to export the CSS changes made via the Inspector? That would really help it be a more effective in-page design tool!

Joseph,

Great work! There always was a cumbersome ability to add more styles, by editing an existing style - if one existed! - and adding more after a semicolon, but the new toggle is much nicer. I'd love to still be able to edit a class or other selector more easily though - any chance of getting something like your nifty mouse-over editable new attributes within a selector as well?

Two other glitches which irritate me no end:
1) Links in the inspector aren't functional. Fine if I can't click them, as that makes sense in the "editor" type behaviour, but if I right click on a link in the Elements or Styles views and get a proper submenu - which I do! - I'd hope "Open Link" and "Open Link in New Window" could be made to work.
2) If the inspector is open in docked mode, interaction within the webkit content window - typing text into an input, using a menu, selecting text - causes it to frantically scroll downwards.

Excellent work on the listeners and cookies - that's superb. And that gives the nice sideeffect that we can empty sessions now! Looking forward to safe 4.1 now :)

Joseph, Excellent work on the improvements.

I have a request which has been bothering me ever since I started using the web inspector (I don't understand it's not implemented yet):

The web inspector can be fired up using the keyboard shortcut alt-command-I. Unfortunately it cannot be turned of with the same keyboard shortcut alt-command-I. It can get quite tedious sometimes having to move the mouse to the close button and remove the inspector in a window while developing.

Hopefully you can implement the on/off toggle just like there is an on/off toggle for the 'view->show statusbar command-/'.

Thanks and thanks for the improvements.

I did a whole bunch file-moving between the new Webkit inspector and Chrome's inspector. Copying the new inspector over just gives me a white screen, and it seems every file that holds the new functionality just ruins the Chrome inspector. It's impossible to get it working without diving into the code and finding what Chrome does differently than Webkit.

So... I guess Chrome users are stuck waiting for Google to catch up.

Last week, our team was recording episode 2 of the Planet Argon Podcast and my colleague, Carlos Rodriguez, mentioned this post and some of the upcoming improvements. I'm quite fond of the HEX additions as I don't speak RGB. ;-)

In Episode 2 of our podcast, we discussed the pros and cons of Web Inspector, Firebug, and DebugBar for debugging HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. You can listen to that here:
